THE HYDROTHERAPY POOL
Our top quality pool has been installed by Westcoast
Products,
who have many years experience in manufacturing and installing
canine hydrotherapy pools.
For more information on Westcoast Products pools go to their website
The pool is eight feet wide, ten
feet long and four feet deep.
There are two anti-swim jets at one end that can be adjusted
to suit your dog's needs.
The water temperature is normally kept at 28°C but can be regulated
as required.
The pool water is kept clean by a high rate water filter and
surface mounted skimmers.
Any bacteria are destroyed by an ozonator and Salt Water Chlorinator.
Water quality is constantly monitored and Westcoast Products
provide a computerized
water quality analysis on a regular basis.
Entry to,and exit from, the pool is via gently sloping ramps.
All dogs wear buoyancy jackets.
Some dogs will swim freely with toys but others will require a hydrotherapist
to be in the water with them or will be steered
by a collar connected to a pole.
Less mobile dogs use an electrically powered hoist and a
soft but strong
fabric sling for support.
Your first visit will involve checking your details and discussing your dog's
special requirements.
Each session will vary starting with a very short swim and you will
soon realise how much energy your dog uses as every muscle is exercised,
including many muscles which are not used in its normal daily activities.
The time spent swimming can be carefully increased
as your dog's mobility and fitness increase.
Some dogs do not enjoy swimming and in this case there is no point in
pushing your dog into continuing.
